WHILE Kildare County Councillors have opted not to introduce pay parking into the Church car park at Leixlip, the Parish Council yet could well do so.
Last month the authorities agreed that the public car park at the Church of Our Lady’s Nativity be excluded from the new bye-laws.
There have been suggestions that the Church authorities will eventually go ahead with restrictions themselves. The car park is church land and while Kildare County Council spent money on turning it into a car park many years ago, the church maintains control. The Parish Council can and may now introduce restrictions aimed at leaving plenty of spaces for those attending church ceremonies. They had it in mind to do that before entering discussions with the Council.
The Leader understands that the Parish Council has not met since the KCC decision and that it will have a look at the situation following the departure of long time parish priest, Fr Michael Hurley at the end of this month.
