Each year they assist where they can because they feel it is important for our youth members to give back to their local community.

Last year the scouts assisted in Robertstown in the painting of the white chains.

Each of the youth member is trying to achieve their Community Awareness Badge.

The ethos of Scouting Ireland is very simple, the scout leader Ruby Whelan explained.

“We aim to encourage our youth members to develop in the following areas - social, physical, intellectual, character, emotional and spiritual.

“We call these our Scouting SPICES.”

In scouting, there is also a great emphasis on the PPI, which stands for the Personal Progression of the Individual.

All of the childre are aged between nine and 12.

Scouting Ireland’s 8th Kildare Allenwood Scout Group is based in Allenwood and includes Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

All of these groups meet weekly in Allenwood GAA Hall.

Beavers (6-8 years) meet on Tuesdays, 6.15-7.15pm.

Cubs (8-11 years): meet on Mondays, 6.15-7.30pm.

Scouts (11-15 years): meet on Mondays, 7.45-9.30pm.

As is the case with all scouting groups, and voluntary organisations which deal with children, Allenwood Scout Group is always looking for new leaders.

The more leaders, the more children can be included in the Unit’s Beavers, Cubs and Scouts groups.
