Kildare South TD Seán Ó Fearghaíl is begging anyone planning to go abroad this summer to check their passports and the date of expiry before they travel.
“While the queues in Passport Offices have decreased, there are still long delays on processing passport renewals and new applications.
It is often the last thing that people check before travelling so I am urging anyone with travel plans to check their passports now.
He said the quickest way of getting a new passport is still the Passport Express Service through the Post Office.
Applications through this Service are currently being processed between 15 and 20 days of receipt.
Travellers should only go to their Passport Office if their trip is an emergency, like such as a death or illness in the family.
