The determined Venice of Ireland committee has battled economic gloom and flagging volunteer resources to produce a fantastic programme.
As July 13 and 14 fast approaches, the finishing touches are being made.
“To be honest, it’s been a bit of a struggle this year. There are so many festivals happening around the country and people are really pushed for time, so it’s hard to get volunteers, but we have a great core of people that stick with it, and do their best to make a difference for Monasterevin,” explained Barry Walsh, committee member.
One of the main events will be the recycled boat race at 1.30pm on Saturday 13. This is open to all aspiring sailors and adventurers as it is an opportunity to build a craft from recycled materials. There will also be a canoe instructor offering free lessons. The big event of the day will be the Picnic in the Park. Other events include children’s storytelling, a historical reenactment, fun run, and a photographic exhibition.
