Met Éireann issue snow and ice warning as temperatures plummet

Snowfall is due to hit Kildare tonight as Met Eireann's Status Orange weather alert comes into force across the county.

A snow-ice warning for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Tipperary comes into effect at 11pm on Saturday night.

Significant falls of snow are expected Saturday night and into Sunday. Accumulations of 4 to 8 cm could occur quite widely with greater totals possible. There may be drifting snow locally at times too with brisk winds.

Pedestrians and commuters should be aware of the dangers of slippery paths and treacherous roads also due to snow accumulation and ice.

The weather warning is valid until 11am on Sunday night.
