New shop to open in Naas next week

A new convenience store is to open in Naas town centre, opposite the Benetton outlet.

Day Today Naas will be located at 31  North Main Street selling groceries, deli items, beverages, newspapers/magazines and confectionery. It will also sell mobile phone credit and have a payzone facility for electronic bill paying. Work on refurbishing and stocking the premises is ongoing and it will likely open later next week.

Proprietor Henry Wu, also operates the Palace Chinese restaurant at Moorefield Road, Newbridge and also had the Great Wall takeaway unit in the Curragh.

A native of China, Mr. Wu has been living here for 17 years. He’s married and lives in Kildare town where his two sons attend primary and secondary school.

He’s optimistic his business will succeed despite the closure of the Spar shop in Poplar Square in February 2015 and Mattimoe’s Londis ten months ago.

“One of the first times I visited Naas I noticed there was nowhere to buy a bottle of water apart from Maxol on Dublin road and SuperValu at the other end of the town. Naas is a busy town. There are many people in Naas every day including people working in offices, students and parents bringing children to the schools. I’ve had ten years of experience in the restaurant business but this a new venture for me,” he told the Leader.

Mr. Wu says the shop will have two full time employees as well as part-time staff.
