International award for Clane angling champion

Clane woman, Jenny Casey, the captain of the Irish Ladies Flyfishing team was recently presented with the K-Club Trophy at the Home Internationals for Ladies Flyfishing.

The event, competed for by Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland, was fished in Scotland this year on the Carron Valley Fishery, south of Stirling, Perthshire.

The K-Club Trophy, sponsored by the Straffan K-Club, is presented to the runner up at the event. Scotland collected the gold medals.

Jenny, from Clane, is the 2016 Captain. She is a former employee at the K-Club, as their Activities Co-ordinator, hosting guests and angling enthusiasts on their lakes and the River Liffey.

This was her fifth cap for Ireland in flyfishing. She was presented the Lady Angler of the Year Trophy for 2015 earlier this year, which qualified her for to captain Ireland's Ladies Flyfishing Team for the Home Internationals in 2016.

She also graduated recently with an Honours Degree from NUIM in History and Geography.

Jenny is a daughter of Mick Casey, a well known Clane angler. Mick recently retired from his position as the Estate Manager at the K-Club.

Another Kildare angler receiving a trophy at the Ladies Fly-fishing International in Scotland was Julie Gerry, from Maynooth. Julie is well-known in the Irish angling scene. She won the World Cup for Trout Flyfishing on Lough Mask in 2004. She has 14 caps for Ladies International Flyfishing and many more for bank fishing with the men’s teams.
