A total of €8,418,937 in funding has been allocated to schools in Kildare under the scheme

Almost 51,000 youths living in County Kildare will benefit from the continued roll-out of Free Schoolbooks Scheme.

That's according to the Minister for Education and Youth, Hildegarde Naughton TD (Fine Gael), who has just announced the investment.

She has claimed that the continuation of the Free Schoolbooks Scheme will represent 'a major investment in reducing the cost of education for families across the county'.

A total of €8,418,937 in funding has been allocated to schools in Kildare under the scheme.

This includes €6,081,737 for post-primary schools and €2,337,200 for primary schools, ensuring students at both levels will receive free schoolbooks and core classroom resources.

In addition, 139 schools across Kildare are set to benefit from the Free Schoolbooks Scheme this year, including 32 post-primary schools and 107 primary schools.

'A REAL DIFFERENCE'

Speaking about the continuation, Minister Naughton said: "The Free Schoolbooks Scheme is making a real difference for families by easing back-to-school costs and ensuring that every child and young person in our schools has the resources they need to learn and succeed.

"In Kildare, almost 51,000 students will benefit directly from this significant investment."

She continued: "By providing funding directly to schools, the government is removing the cost of books and resources as a barrier to participation in education and supporting greater equity and consistency in classrooms.

"The Free Schoolbooks Scheme covers schoolbooks and a range of essential classroom resources, removing the need for parents and guardians to purchase or rent these items at the start of the school year."

The Minister further said: "I want to thank principals, teachers and school staff throughout Kildare for their work in implementing this scheme; their efforts are ensuring that students benefit fully from this important government support."

She concluded by asserting that her Department 'will continue to work closely with schools to support the delivery of the scheme' and to further reduce the cost of education for families nationwide'.
