The plans are currently being drafted by Kildare County Council

Additional traffic calming measures are being planned near a special education school located in County Kildare.

Kildare County Council (KCC) released the information in response to a question from Independent Cllr Pat Balfe, which was submitted at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, April 15 last.

Cllr Balfe, who appeared at this meeting by virtual means, submitted the following question to KCC: "Can the KCC confirm if any safety audits or assessments have been carried out in relation to St Anne’s Special School, The Curragh and its immediate environs?"

As part of his query, he wanted KCC's answer to:

  • "[Address] access routes, set-down areas, parking and pedestrian crossings"
  • "Provide the dates and outcomes of any such audits"
  • "Outline any safety improvements that have been implemented or are planned to address the particular needs of students attending the school"

Replying to Cllr Balfe's question, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Municipal District Office has recently reinstalled driver feedback signs at St Anne’s Special School."

KCC also revealed: "It is intended to install additional traffic calming measures in the form of signage and road markings to improve road safety in the area."

Cllr Balfe in turn told KCC that he accepted the report.

In related news, it was reported earlier this week that Cllr Balfe requested Kildare County Council (KCC) to carry out a safety audit on a 'key' junction located within the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.placeholder image
