Reduced parking fees sought for one Kildare car park

The idea was suggested at a recent Kildare County Council meeting
Reduced parking fees have been sought for one County Kildare car park.
The matter was raised by Fianna Fáil councillor Brian Dooley at the latest Athy Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Monday, April 20 last.
Specifically, Cllr Dooley asked Kildare County Council (KCC) the following question: "Can KCC confirm if it would consider reducing parking fees in the council car park opposite the train station to support commuters?"
Responding to his query, KCC said via the report it submitted at the meeting: "The current rate for parking at this location is €2.50 per day.
"It is anticipated that any review of charges as part of a parking Bye-Laws will increase the charges."
KCC further said: "As this car park is in close proximity to the centre of Athy, it is not reserved for commuters only and can be used by all visitors to the town."
