Several motorists are fined after locals complained to Kildare gardai about speeding

Following public complaints, the Naas Roads Policing Unit carried out a speed enforcement checkpoint in Kilberry near Athy in South Kildare. 

The location is a 50km/h zone and local residents were concerned about the excessive speed of vehicles passing through the area. 

During the garda operation, six drivers were detected speeding, with recorded speeds of 96km/h and 88km/h among the highest noted.

All motorists stopped were issued Fixed Charge Penalty Notices of €160 as well as three penalty points on their driving licences. 

Gardaí reiterated that speed limits are in place to protect everyone in the community - particularly in lower speed zones where there is higher pedestrian and residential activity.

Gardaí added: "Drivers are urged to slow down and travel responsibly."
