Gardaí based in County Kildare are investigating after a man was assaulted in front of a child in broad daylight.
The incident was highlighted on KFM earlier today (February 25) by Garda Brian Carroll, who appeared as a guest on one of the station's programmes.
He told host Hannah Kelly that the crime occurred on Friday, February 20 last between the hours of 4.30pm and 5pm.
Gda Carroll further said that a man, a woman and a child were walking on a section of the Moorefield Road in Newbridge when a car suddenly pulled up near them.
A man then emerged from the car and proceeded to punch the man in the face.
Gda Carroll also said that the child was pushed to the ground during the incident.
He concluded by urging anyone with information to contact Newbridge Garda Station on 045 440 180.
When asked by the Leinster Leader about this crime, a garda spokesperson responded: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged incident of an assault which occurred on Moorefield Road, Newbridge, County Kildare on Thursday, February 19 last."
The spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing.
