A new spin on Irish mythology: Kildare-based author to launch his debut children's fantasy book
The upcoming event will also feature a guest speaker
After many years of working on his debut book, a County Kildare-based author is preparing to finally launch the fruit of his labour next week.
'Heroes of Light and Shadow', which is the brainchild of Conor Forrest, puts a modern spin on Irish mythology and is aimed at younger readers.
The book's story follows a young boy named Oisín, who is assisted by none other than the legendary figure Fionn MacCumhaill.
Together, can they prevent death and destruction? Or will Dublin find itself torn apart by monsters it had once left behind in distant memory?
The launch of Conor's debut will take place inside Athy Library on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. It will begin at 6pm.
In addition, the launch will feature a guest speaker, in the form of veteran playwright, author and actor John MacKenna.
Copies of 'Heroes of Light and Shadow' will be available for sale on the evening, and will be supplied by the Kilcullen-based business Woodbine Books.
'Heroes of Light and Shadow' has been published by The O'Brien Press.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
According to Conor's official website, he was inspired to pursue writing by his grandfather, whom he referred to as "a gifted storyteller who had a knack for creating tall tales of all sorts".
Conor has spent more than a decade writing for a variety of publications, including six years as a reporter for the Kildare Nationalist newspaper.
He is also an associate of the InkTank Writing Group - Conor explained to the Leader: "I joined the Newbridge-based InkTank during COVID and they were some of the first people to read what became Heroes of Light and Shadow.
"They're a brilliant group full of talented writers and their advice and feedback was fantastic," he added.
