The February 2026 Local Property Tax (LPT) allocations for the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District were discussed at a recent meeting.
At this meeting, which took place yesterday (Wednesday, February 18 last), the Municipal District's councillors were asked to agree on the residual LPT allocations.
For the first allocation, Fine Gael Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer proposed to allocate €800 through the Community Department.
This would be done in order to support the Kilcullen Brigid 1500 Committee for an Oral Preservation project on Military Heritage in Kilcullen, including the Army, Naval and Air Corps, dating from the 1950s to current day and incorporating interviews from 15 male and female military personnel of all rank.
This project will be launched in March and will also be open to the public during heritage week later in the year.

For the second allocation, Fianna Fáil Cllr Suzanne Doyle proposed the reallocation of €100,000 of the 2025 LPT allocated for the provision of a skatepark in Kildare town to the provision of a Community Centre in Kildare town.
This action was taken as as the skatepark has not been delivered, and the Community Section have requested funding for the provision of a community centre in Kildare town.
Lastly, for the third allocation, Social Democrats Cllr Pat Balfe proposed to allocate €800 to the age friendly co-ordinator for programmes with the Suncroft Retirement Group.
Following a brief discussion, the nominations were agreed upon by the councillors.
