Detective Garda Christine Brady said the female injured party lived near to the defendant and the alleged incidents took place from when she was aged 12 to when she was aged 18.
The garda referred to the charges as sample counts.
It was also claimed that most of the incidents took place in the home of the injured party.
It was claimed that the injured party was touched on her breasts inside clothing and underwear.
The court was also told that the defendant remained silent when the 82 charges were read to him.
There was no objection to bail, which was granted by Judge Desmond Zaidan provided the defendant has no contact with the injured party or any State witnesses.
He imposed reporting restrictions covering names and addresses and he granted free legal aid.
The case was adjourned to March 3 for the preparation of a book of evidence.
