A number of layout changes have been proposed for the grounds of one County Kildare church.

Father Liam Morgan is seeking planning permission from Kildare County Council (KCC) to make the changes to the Church of Our Lady and Saint David, which is located on the Sallins Road in Naas.

It follows after Fr Morgan submitted a separate planning permission application to KCC last year in order to make changes to Naas Parish Office.

According to the description contained within the application, the following changes have been proposed by Fr Morgan:

  • The removal of existing metal railings and gates along the eastern boundary fronting onto Sallins Road, removal of bollards and security barrier.
  • The installation of metal railings (1 metre high), low-level hedging and bollards along the eastern boundary fronting onto Sallins Road.
  • A revision to the current car parking layout, to include proposed disabled car parking spaces.
  • Modifications to the grotto area and railings.
  • New hard and soft landscaping treatments, which includes new paved and grassed areas and seating benches to the east and north of Church building.
  • The construction of a proposed footbridge across watercourse to the north of Church building, allowing access to car park.
  • All ancillary works.

The date received on the application is listed as November 4 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as December 8, 2025 and January 7, 2026.

The official website for the Church of Our Lady and Saint David notes that the main body of the church dates back to 1827, and that the 60 metre spire was subsequently added in 1858.

In addition, the website notes that the site's most recent renovations, which were carried out in 1985, "incorporated the directives of the 2nd Vatican Council".
