Leixlip, Maynooth, Celbridge, Straffan and Kilcock are to benefit from a new E15m water pipeline, which is due to be completed within 12 months.
Kildare County Council signed the contract for the construction of the Castlewarden to Ballygoran Pipeline and Reservoir on December 20. The job was given to Ward & Burke Construction Ltd.
“The awarding of this contract represents the latest step in the continued delivery of improvements to the county’s water supply infrastructure which will provide for future economic growth and domestic demand in North East Kildare,” said the council.
“This link will provide a gravity supply to domestic, commercial and industrial users to meet current and projected demands and will also provide a greater security of supply. The contract will also provide increased storage at Ballygoran Reservoir.”
The contract includes the construction of a new reservoir at Ballygoran, Maynooth; refurbishment of an existing reservoir at Ballygoran, Maynooth;
construction of 13km watermain from Bishopscourt Lower to Ballygoran, Maynooth; and the construction of 3.9kms and 0.8kms watermains to Celbridge and Straffan respectively.
The project is being 75% funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
The pipelines are due to be completed within 12 months of contract signing.
