Gardaí and Revenue yesterday (October 23 last) seized €858,500 worth of cigarettes from two properties, one of which was located near the Kildare-Offaly border.
According to a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána: "Gardaí and Revenue have seized €858,500 worth of cigarettes following a joint operation in County Offaly on Thursday, October 23 last.
"Gardaí in Offaly carried out searches under warrant of two properties in Edenderry and Rhode and recovered 906,000 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €858,500.
"Revenue Customs Officers have seized the cigarettes, which have now been taken for further examination."
The spokesperson concluded: "Investigations are ongoing."
