Kildare County Council was asked to provide an estimate on its litter management costs across the Athy Municipal District (MD).
The request was made by Fianna Fáil councillor Veralouise Behan at the latest MD meeting on Monday, September 15 last.
Cllr Behan appeared at this meeting by virtual means.
In response to her query, Kildare County Council said via its report at the meeting: "Based on annual budget figures, the cost of providing the street sweeping service across the county is €3.415 million, of which the Athy MD allocation is €595,000."
Kildare County Council added: "Additional litter management costs countywide amount to €1.5m; this includes, for example, community warden costs, dumping clean-up costs, provision and servicing of bottle banks, Tidy Towns supports, etc."
