(File Photo) Decision due soon on new Lidl on Kildare border
A decision is expected soon on a proposed mixed-use development anchored by Lidl in Blessington on the Kildare border.
The planned location is Haylands, Dublin Road, Blessington.
The proposed development provides for the demolition of an existing single-storey dwelling (with former Bed & Breakfast use), an ancillary outbuilding and garage, and five vacant commercial buildings.
It also includes the renovation and change of use of an existing single-storey vernacular townhouse on Dublin Road to create approximately 71 square metres of office and commercial space.
The main element of the scheme is the construction of a part-single, part-two-storey discount foodstore supermarket with a mono-pitch roof, providing a gross floor space of approximately 2,305 square metres and a net retail sales area of 1,499 square metres, with ancillary off-licence use.
A single-storey café unit of 140 square metres, including external seating, is also proposed.
The development includes a new vehicular access point from Dublin Road including modification of existing footpaths, car parking with electric vehicle charging facilities, cycle parking, roof-mounted solar panels and hard and soft landscaping.
A decision by Wicklow County Council is expected in coming weeks.
