A fire incident which occurred in South Kildare earlier this week resulted in €25,000 in damages.

Details of the incident were relayed to KFM host Eoin Beatty by Garda Brian Carroll, who appeared on the station yesterday morning (August 20 last).

Gda Carroll explained that the crime took place in the early hours of August 18 last in Athy.

According to him, a vehicle was set on fire, and CCTV footage of the incident appears to show that the fire "was started deliberately".

He also said that chairs and a bicycle were also damaged in the fire, and, in total, the fire caused around €25,000 worth of damage.

Gda Carroll concluded by calling on anyone with information about this incident to contact Athy Garda Station on 059 863 4210.

When asked by the Leinster Leader about this crime, a garda spokesperson responded: "Gardaí received a report of an incident of criminal damage by fire to a car that occurred at approximately 12.35am on August 18, 2025 in Athy, County Kildare."
