Kildare artist presents 'Braveheart' painting to Hollywood star Mel Gibson

Presentation took place in Trim Castle Hotel

Curragh based artist, Michael Rowley recently had the honour of presenting Mel Gibson with one of his Braveheart Curragh landscapes in Trim Castle Hotel.

Hollywood star Gibson was the guest of honour to mark Trim's association as a location for the 1994 making of Braveheart with fabulous events organised locally.

In 1994, 1,000 young Reserve members of the Irish Defence Forces all signed up to become part of several scenes filmed in the Curragh plains in Kildare.

The Oscar-winning iconic action film was about Scotland’s struggle for independence.

They camre in their droves from all over Ireland to work long hours as paid extras over the eight weeks of filming and became forever a part of the an Oscar-winning movie.

They received specialst training in sword fighting and handling and how to avoid any accidents on set as the weapons used were real.

Michael's solo exhibition, Braveheart the Curragh Landscape's continues at Castle Craft, Market Street, Trim until Sunday 17th August.
