Kildare residents invited to comment on planning permission changes

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has launched a 4-week public consultation on proposed changes to planning permission exemptions.

These updates aim to cut red tape for small-scale projects and free up local authority resources for larger housing developments.

The proposed exemptions include attic conversions (with rooflights); installation of heat pumps; subdivision of homes (e.g. for older family members) and detached living units (e.g. for carers or relatives).

The consultation period closes at 5pm, Tuesday 26 August 2025.
