Residents' complaints prompt speed checkpoint in this Kildare village

Following a number of complaints from local residents, Naas Roads Policing Unit (NaasRPU) recently conducted a high-visibility speed checkpoint on the R402 at Kilshanroe, Co. Kildare.

A number of Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) were issued to drivers.

Two motorists were detected travelling at speeds between 82 km/h and 85 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

The motorists were each issued with a €160 fine and three penalty points on their licences.

A message from An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “Kilshanroe is a village – not a speed zone. Please slow down and drive responsibly. Speed limits are there to protect lives.”

Meanwhile, Naas Roads Policing Unit recently conducted a speed check in Milltown , Co Kildare (60kph zone), where they detected a vehicle travelling at 101kph while dangerously overtaking on a continuous white line.

When stopped, the driver claimed he was “late for the Galway Races”, stated he had “never been in trouble before”, and asked if he could be “let off.”

The motorist was issued a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) of €240 and received three penalty points.

A message from An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “Driving like this puts lives at risk. Excessive speed and dangerous overtaking are a recipe for serious - even fatal collisions. Leave the racing to the horses. Stay safe.”
