Kildare County Council (KCC) has assured a local councillor that a costing for the upgrade of Clane Playground will be provided soon.

Fianna Fáil Cllr William Durkan motioned for KCC to provide the costing at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which was held on Friday, May 2 last.

He also asked KCC to provide an update on any progress to secure funding for such works as part of his motion.

Cllr Durkan's motion was also taken together with a similar motion concerning the Clane Playground, which was submitted by Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy.

The motion from Cllr Durkan was seconded by his party colleague Cllr Brendan Wyse, the latter of whom also suggested to KCC that an expansion of the playground, or even the creation of a second playground, may soon be required for Clane due to to the rising population in the area.

"It's time for a rejuvenation," he added.

In response to the motion, KCC said via its report at the meeting: "A costing for the upgrade of Clane Playground will be prepared."

However, KCC also stressed: "Any funding required will have to be considered for the 2026 budget."
