Kildare gardai announce 'significant' Road Safety Campaign in Kildare for this weekend

Recent speed detections in Ballyshannon and Athgarvan - one driver 118kph in a 60kph zone

An Garda Síochána Kildare have announced a 'significant' Road Safety Campaign in Kildare for the May bank holiday weekend.

The measure was announced on An Garda Síochána Kildare's Facebook page, which stated: “Bank Holidays can be an especially dangerous time for all road users with Increased Traffic Volumes on our Roads.

“Enforcement Actions will be significantly increased throughout the county.

“We are urging all drivers to slow down, wear your seat belt, put away the phone, focus on the road, take breaks and never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Gardai in Kildare this week detected the following speeds on our roads.

Proceedings have been issue to the drivers in all cases.

Ballyshannon – 118kmh in a 60 kmh zone; 113kmh in a 60kmh zone; and 96kmh in a 60kmh zone.

Meanwhile, in Athgarvan this week (L2032), Kildare gardai detected the following speeds:

80kph in a 50kph zone; 73kph in a 50kph zone; and 73kph in a 50kph zone.

Fixed-Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNS) including a €160 fine and three penalty points have been issued to all drivers.

Gardai have urged drivers to slow down and pay attention to road signs and speed limits.
