A first responders group based in County Kildare will host its annual general meeting (AGM) later this week.

Newbridge Community First Responders (NCFR) have said that the meeting will be open to the public, and also "for those interested in becoming a community first responder or have been in contact with us".

The event will take place on the grounds of Newbridge Rugby Football Club at 7.30pm this Wednesday, March 26.

According to the "About" section of NCFR's official Facebook page, community first responders are "groups of volunteers, linked to the National Ambulance Service and despatched by the 999 / 112 National Ambulance Service to emergencies within their communities".

These responders are only dispatched to cardiac arrest, adult chest pain (suspected heart attack), stroke and choking emergencies in their communities.

"Most responder groups have organised themselves to be "on call 24 / 7" to respond to these emergencies," the NCFR added.
