Plans are in progress to refurbish toilet facilities in Newbridge Cemetery, Kildare County Council has confirmed.
Confirmation came to a recent Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, when Cllr Tom McDonnell (IND) raised the matter in a motion.
Cllr McDonnell told the committee that it had been brought to his attention that there were several issues in relation to Newbridge graveyard.
Firstly, he said, there had been no water supply to the graveyard, which he resolved himself as a temporary measure.

It was also brought to his attention that there is an issue with the toilets at Newbridge graveyard, that “they're not in good nick”, or are not open or available to the public.
“Surely”, he argued, if there were “1,000 people at a funeral” then they ought to have proper toilet facilities to avail of.
“It's not acceptable”, he said, adding this was especially the case if the nearest toilet was “half a mile or a mile away.”
Responding to Cllr McDonnell, Cathaoirleach Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer said: “You're the only person who's getting good news today, Tom”, as she read out the council's report on the motion.
The council report confirmed that “plans are in progress to refurbish the facilities in Newbridge Cemetery.”
