West African folklore tale Mami Wata
Riverbank Arts Centre, in partnership with access>CINEMA, is thrilled to host Dublin International Film Festival Tour 2024 on Saturday March 2.
The Festival Tour continues for another year expanding in 2024 to now include three festival highlights; French comedy drama Toni, West African folklore tale Mami Wata, along with a specifically curated Shorts Programme.
This expanded Festival Tour will give audiences beyond Dublin an opportunity to engage with the festival experience and view a variety of exceptional world cinema titles.
The short film format has always been a crucial part of the festival, acting as both a showcase for future talent and as an art form in its own right.
Screening at 3pm, this year’s Shorts titles include: Grill / Jade Aksnes (Norway); The Old Young Crow / Liam LoPinto (Japan/USA); I Promise You Paradise / Morad Mostafa (Egypt); 7 fois / Christine Wiederkehr (Switzerland); Expectations and Other Products / Dali Rust (Lithuania); Treasure by the River / Hanjie Bao, Manting Huang (China).
French comedy drama Toni is on the big screen at 5pm. Starring Camile Cottin as the titular character, Toni is a single mother raising her five children alone. She sings at bars and had a hit single 20 years ago.
Today, as her two eldest prepare to go to college, Toni wonders: what will she do when all of her offspring have left home?
Visually stunning Mami Wata screens at 8pm.
This genre-bending tale brings to life a futuristic fable that fuses spiritual beliefs with inter-generational tensions.
Set in the matriarchal ocean village of Iyi, where West African water deity, Mami Wata, reigns via village leader Mama Efe, it uniquely brings to the screen a story of mythology, fantasy, and folklore.
When the harmony of the village is threatened, two sisters must fight to restore order, as traditions of the past crash with calls from the future.
Dublin International Film Festival Tour is supported by The Arts Council of Ireland.
The tour will take place at Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge on Saturday March 2 from 3pm.
Tickets are priced €7 (single) and €15 (full day) and can be booked through the Box Office, either in person or by telephone on 045 448327 Monday to Friday 9.30am-5pm (closed for lunch 2-2.30) and Saturday 10am-1pm.

Online tickets are subject to €1 booking fee per ticket.
