New as yet unnamed apartments being built in Naas
Names applied to some residential areas in the Naas area have been criticised.
Knightsbrook in Johnstown and Rathvoy Park came in for unfavourable mention at a Naas Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Fintan Brett asked that Kildare County Council bring proposed names of estates in the Naas area before the councillors “for comment prior to their acceptance or otherwise by the council.”
He said Knightsbrook was inappropriate and Cllr Seamie Moore said Rathvoy Park may be an amalgamation of Rathasker and Devoy - but it is a “nonsense name”.
Cllr Bill Clear said that more Irish names should be used instead of “names of nothingness.”
According to Kildare County Council the assessment of naming proposals for all residential developments is carried out as a compliance with a condition of planning permission and is a function of the council officials.
This assessment is carried out by a “naming team and in accordance with an adopted policy."
