ONCE again the Ryston Club came away with the best club and coaches accolade from the Irish Amateur Boxing Association annual awards, which were held at the Green Isle Hotel in Dublin last weekend, writes Ruth Chambers.
Ryston’s Hugh Myers, pictured, who pushed Olympian Paddy Barnes all the way in the final of the 49kg division at the National Elite Championships, also walked away with the intermediate boxer of the year award.
The Newbridge based club have won the best club title for the last three years on the trot and four times in the last five years. In 2012 they claimed no less than 14 national titles and their nearest rivals were the Paulstown club in Kilkenny, who won eleven titles.
