The March winner of the Sheehy Motors SKODA Leinster Leader Sports Award has gone to Ryston Boxing Club’s Chris Phelan.
Last month Phelan was crowned National Elite 52kg champion when he beat Adam Courtney in the final on March 7. The victory was particularly sweet for the Kildare Town native as he had previously lost three national finals on the trot to Olympian Michael Conlon.
The Belfast man moved up a weight this year and Phelan seized the opportunity to take the flyweight crown.
The Ryston man has come up through the ranks of the Newbridge club since joining as a seven-year-old, winning all in front of him at every age level and now the 21-year-old finally got his hands on a well deserved national senior title.
So it is with great please we announce Chris Phelan as the winner of the February award, promoted jointly by Sheehy Motors Skoda and the Leinster Leader.
