At the September Kildare GAA Co. Board meeting, held in Sarsfields GAA clubhouse this evening (Tuesday September 12) senior football manager Glenn Ryan, heading into his third season in charge, has had two additions to his backroom team approved by delegates.
Colm Nally has been ratified as the new Lead Coach and he will also act as a selector; Johnny Doyle and Anthony Rainbow continue as selectors and they will be joined by Brian Lacey, who acted as Video Analyst for the past two season. These changes will bring the management set-up to five.
Nally, a Dublin native who played at minor and U21 for his county before moving to Louth where he played for their senior team in goals; he is a highly respected coach and was part of the Meath set-up under Gerry McEntee in recent years; he has published a number of GAA coaching books along with GAA coaching videos.
Ronan Sweeney has been approved as the new Forwards Coach; he will have no role in the selection process.
On the hurling front former Kilkenny Camogie manager, Brian Dowling, has been appointed as the new Senior Hurling Manager; he will be joined by coach/ selector Nigel O'Hara who held that position last year under David Herity. The other selectors will be announced later.
Meanwhile U20 football manager will not be announced until later.
Niall Cronin will continue into this his third year as Minor Football Manager (U17).
It was announced that this season's SFC final and Intermediate Football final will be played at Netwatch Dr Cullen Park, Carolow, as a double header on Sunday October 22.
