There are better services in towns with smaller populations

More bus services are needed in Naas as the town’s population expands with the opening of new residential developments.

Cllr Bill Clear called for the reinstatement of a town bus service for the “approximately 2000 extra residences of the Pipers Hill area and John Devoy Road" and on to Sallins train station. These are in place for towns with the same or less of a population than Naas like Navan, Athlone, Drogheda and Sligo.

“We had a local bus service but it was stopped,” he said, suggesting a service that would also embrace Kill and Johnstown.

But Naas Mayor Evie Sammon was opposed to this and said that other places need a service such as Sallins, Monread, Piper’s Hill and Jigginstown.

Cllr Sammon said an orbital route service is needed.

“Our housing estates are sprawling,” she said.
