Key infrastructure investments to support delivery of 'thousands’ of new homes across Kildare

Local Fianna Fáil Minister, James Lawless has confirmed government investment in Kildare
Local Fianna Fail Minister James Lawless has confirmed the Government’s continued investment in the infrastructure needed to support housing delivery across County Kildare, with a series of strategic projects in Naas, Maynooth, Celbridge and Leixlip set to unlock significant residential development and support growing communities.
Minister Lawless said: “This Government is investing in the infrastructure needed to deliver thousands of new homes across Kildare. These projects will support sustainable communities, improve connectivity and help more families access housing close to where they work and live.
“The projects form part of a wider programme of investment in transport, active travel, public realm and utility infrastructure, helping to create the conditions necessary for new housing development throughout the county. Tens of millions of euros will be invested to progress these projects across Kildare.”
Naas Projects
Naas Northwest Quadrant and Canal Quarter - The development of a new pedestrian bridge at Naas Harbour and improved links to the Naas Northwest Quadrant will strengthen connections between the town centre and a major new residential and mixed-use district.
Supported through Active Travel and Urban Regeneration funding, alongside investment in the Canal Quarter and Library Masterplan projects, this initiative will help unlock the potential of the Naas Northwest Quadrant, which has capacity for approximately 4,000 residential units.
Naas Inner Relief Road - The proposed Naas Inner Relief Road will link the R445 Dublin Road with the R410 Blessington Road, improving traffic movement through the town and supporting future residential growth. Backed by investment from Transport Infrastructure Ireland, EirGrid’s Kildare-Dublin Grid Reinforcement Project and Urban Regeneration Development Funding, the project is expected to directly unlock lands for approximately 850 residential units.
Strategic Kildare Projects
Captain’s Hill Upgrade, Confey, Leixlip - The upgrade of Captain’s Hill will improve connectivity between Confey and Leixlip while supporting the development of new residential communities in the area.
Supported by investment through DART+ West, improvements around Confey Station, water and drainage infrastructure upgrades and electricity network enhancements, the project is expected to directly unlock lands for approximately 1,750 residential units and indirectly support a further 1,000 residential units.
Celbridge Hazelhatch Mobility Corridor - The proposed Hazelhatch Mobility Corridor will provide a new road connection between Clane Road and Louglinstown Road, including a new bridge crossing of the River Liffey and enhanced walking and cycling facilities.
Supported by investment in DART+ South West, improvements at Hazelhatch and Celbridge Station, major water and wastewater infrastructure and electricity network upgrades, the project is expected to directly unlock lands for approximately 1,719 residential units and indirectly support a further 1,582 residential units.
Maynooth Outer Orbital Road (MOOR) – Phase 1 - The first phase of the Maynooth Outer Orbital Road will connect Moyglare Road and Crewhill with Kilcock Road, providing essential infrastructure to support the town’s continued expansion.
Supported by DART+ West, the proposed transport hub west of Maynooth, water services upgrades and electricity network investment, the project is expected to directly unlock lands for approximately 1,126 residential units, while future phases are expected to facilitate a further 3,448 residential units.
Minister Lawless added: “These investments show how strategic infrastructure can directly support housing delivery. By investing in transport, utilities and active travel infrastructure, we are creating the conditions needed to build new homes and strengthen communities across Kildare. Across Naas, Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth, these projects have the potential to unlock thousands of homes and support sustainable growth for years to come.
“Collectively, these projects have the potential to support the delivery of more than 11,000 homes across County Kildare, through a combination of directly unlocked residential development lands, indirect housing capacity and future growth opportunities.
“These investments will help ensure that Kildare can continue to meet housing demand while supporting sustainable and well-connected communities.”
