Kildare animal shelter gives thanks for government funding hike

KWWSPCA Animals in Need Column
The KWWSPCA would like to thank Minister Charlie McConalogue and his Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, most sincerely for the increased funding for animal welfare for 2023 that was announced recently.
This additional funding comes at a time when costs are rapidly increasing with no reduction in the number of animals in need of help.
Although the KWWSPCA gets most of its income from donations from its supporters, profits from its charity shop in Newbridge, Noah’s Ark, from fundraising events and by charging adoption fees when a rescue animal is rehomed, the government funding is most welcome and an important source of its funds.
The additional funding provided for next year will help cover the increase in our veterinary and other costs.
Volunteer organization
The KWWSPCA is entirely run by volunteers; no wages are paid and so we can devote most of the government funding, donations and income from other sources to caring for animals in need. This is a time of year when we would like to thank all our very loyal and dedicated volunteers for all their hard work during the year.
We could not continue without them. We have volunteers in our animal shelter caring for both cats and dogs, in our charity shop in Newbridge, others who help with fostering animals in their own homes, as well as those volunteers who help with fund raising and other activities.
The KWWSPCA would like to send their sincere gratitude to all of them. We are especially grateful to all the kind people who have agreed to foster our shelter cats and dogs for a few days over Christmas so that they can have a warm and loving few days in a proper home.
The search for permanent homes for them will start again in the New Year. Ivy, the lurcher, and Smudge, the cat, will be both be looking for their forever homes soon.
Thank you for Donations
People are so very generous, especially at this time of year, and we would like to thank everyone who has donated money, gifts for our animals, pet food and bedding, and all those who have donated items that can be sold in our charity shop. Without your support, it would be difficult for the KWWSPCSA to continue its work.
