Judge says he nearly stopped to help drunk Kildare man who almost walked into lamp post

A man refused to leave a bus at 5am, Naas District Court heard.

Ronald Mackey, 65, whose address was given as Ballytore Hill, Ballytore, was prosecuted for being intoxicated in a public place, at Market Square, Kildare on May 7 last.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said the defendant was highly intoxicated and was refusing to get off the bus.

Judge Desmond Zaidan commented that he was familiar with the defendant.

“I've seen him drunk. I nearly stopped to help him, it was near the cemetery and he almost walked into a lamppost,” said Judge Zaidan.

He imposed a fine of €150.
