BREAKING NEWS: Body of man in 40s discovered in Newbridge

Gardaí who were investigating a report of an alleged assault in Newbridge found the body of a man.

The initial investigation began when a woman walked into Newbridge Garda Station in the early hours of this morning and claimed she had been assaulted. 

She was taken to Naas Hospital were her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. 

Gardaí later went to the address where the alleged assault took place and found the body of a man aged in his 40s. 

A post mortem is due to be carried out tomorrow morning and the results will determine the course of the garda investigation. 

A Garda statement said: "Gardaí in Kildare received a report of an alleged assault, when a woman presented herself at Newbridge Garda Station in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, 14th December 2022.

"The woman, aged in her 30s, was later taken to Naas General hospital to receive treatment for her injuries. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening."

The statement continued: "Subsequently, Gardaí attended a residence in the Newbridge area of Kildare, the same location of the alleged assault, and discovered the body of a man, aged in his 40s.

"His body has since been removed from the scene and taken to the Mortuary at Naas General Hospital.

"A post-mortem has been scheduled for tomorrow morning, Thursday, 15th December 2022.

"The outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.

"The scene remains preserved this evening.

"Investigations ongoing."
