UPDATE: Details provided for closures at Green Canal towpath by Kildare County Council

Details have been provided by Kildare County Council (KCC) in relation to closures at the Green Canal towpath.

Last week, KCC announced that Grand Canal towpath from Sallins to Naas Golf Club will be closed to pedestrian and cycle traffic until September 2023.

The closure will take place until September 11, 2023. 

KCC said that it apologises for any inconvenience caused.

The closures planned on this route can be viewed in full below, with corresponding map attached:

  • Section A Sallins to Rail Bridge:
    Section closed to the public.
  • Section B Rail Bridge to Devonshire Bridge:
    Section partially closed to the public. Pedestrians are still able to access part of the towpath.
  • Alignment Section C Devonshire Bridge to Ponsonby Bridge:
    No works commenced on this section. Section remains open to the public.
  • Alignment Section D Ponsonby Bridge to Henry Bridge:
    No works commenced on this section. Section remains open to the public.
  • Alignment Section E Henry Bridge to Aylmer Bridge:
    No works commenced on this section. Section remains open to the public.

The construction of the Grand Canal Greenway in Kildare is being carried out by John Cradock Ltd, on behalf of KCC.
