KILDARE: Information talk on bereavement for parents and teachers

How Do Children Grieve? An Information Talk for Parents and Carers

Kildare Bereavement Network will host a public bereavement information event on Tuesday, November 22, 6:30pm 8:00pm at Leixlip Library, Co. Kildare.

‘How Do Children Grieve? An Information Talk for Parents & Carers’ is a free event for anyone
who is supporting a bereaved child or young person. If you are a parent, grandparent, carer,
teacher or relative you may find this event helpful. This event coincides with Bereaved
Children’s Awareness Week hosted by the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network. It campaigns
to help those supporting bereaved children including parents, carers, teachers, sports groups,
faith communities or friends in their local communities.
Our guest speaker, Úna Holstead, is a systemic Psychotherapist. She coordinates Therapy
services at the Curragh Family Resource Centre and previously worked as part of the
Barnardo’s Children’s Bereavement Service team and with children in the care system
The talk will include information about how children can experience grief, the different ways grief
can affect a child/young person, what you can do to support a child who has been bereaved and
where you can find additional supports.
There will be representatives from a range of local bereavement supports at the event.
Attendees can listen to talk, take away some information leaflets about the services and, if they
wish, can talk with service representatives about the supports they provide.
Refreshments will be available throughout the morning.
This event is part of a wider program of events under the Bereavement Friendly Libraries
program, which includes a bereavement information webinar for library staff in Kildare and a
free information event on children’s grief. The network are donating books on children’s grief as
part of the initiative.
