Traffic lights for Allenwood - Kildare County Council decision

The cross roads in the West Kildare village

Allenwood village is set to get traffic lights.

The busy west Kildare village has experienced growth over the past few years and Kildare County Council has decided that, for the safety of locals, traffic lights are required.

Deputy Fiona O'Loughlin welcomed the decision by the council saying there had "been a number of close calls at the cross road especially at busy times of the day. It was vital that the council examined the area and made appropriate changes to ensure public safety for all".

She outlined that the next step is to design and tender the junction and source funding for the project.

"It is estimated that the cost of the works is between €100,000 to €200,000 depending on the extent of civil work required which will be determined at the design and tender stage.

“This news will come with delight to residents in the area and to anyone who drives through and encounters the havoc at the junction. Pedestrian safety is a massive concern and that’s why the council carried out an assessment,” she concluded.
