Concern over pedestrian safety at Naas traffic lights

A call has been made to alter the sequence North Main St traffic lights

Kildare County Council says it will monitor and assess traffic volumes following concerns expressed about pedestrian safety in Naas.

Cllr Seamie Moore said the signal sequencing needs to be altered at the lights at North Main Street to ensure that people have enough time to cross. He said some elderly people find that the green light comes on, allowing traffic to proceed through to Sallins Road, after they have started to walk across the street.

“It is putting those who are still walking across the street in extreme danger,” said Cllr Moore.

KCC’s response was that its traffic management section will monitor and assess traffic volumes and movements at the location.

It will also assess the signal timings to establish how much time is allowed for pedestrians.
