Kildare bishop  Denis Nulty celebrates Mass with rededication of Kilshanroe church

Last Sunday saw the re-dedication of the Church of the Holy Family in Kilshanroe following the refurbishment of the building.

The church was closed from August to December for extensive renovations and reopened just before Christmas.

A Mass was celebrated by Bishop Denis Nulty, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, on Sunday following which a reception took place in the Hamlet Court Hotel in Johnstownbridge where our photographer Tony Keane was on hand to capture the occasion.

The project manager for the renovation project was Padraig Arthur, Chancery Group, Tullamore and the main contractor and builders were Thomas, Jason and Derrick Mooney, Thomas Mooney Plastering.

The design consultants were Ruth Cantwell and Vincent O'Brien.

The church was orginally opened and blessed by Most Rev Dr Lennon, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, on Sunday June 28, 1975 and had a price of £20,000 for the build, most of which was raised through planned by the parishioners. It replaced a 200 year church which was demolished with parts like slates and timber sold.
