The church was closed from August to December for extensive renovations and reopened just before Christmas.
A Mass was celebrated by Bishop Denis Nulty, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, on Sunday following which a reception took place in the Hamlet Court Hotel in Johnstownbridge where our photographer Tony Keane was on hand to capture the occasion.

The church was orginally opened and blessed by Most Rev Dr Lennon, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, on Sunday June 28, 1975 and had a price of £20,000 for the build, most of which was raised through planned by the parishioners. It replaced a 200 year church which was demolished with parts like slates and timber sold.
