New retirement group is to launch in Naas

The group's first meeting will be held at McAuley Place

A new active retirement group is being set up in Naas.

It will be known as Nás Na Ríogh active retirement group and a local woman decided to launch it because the existing active retired group is oversubscribed.

“The existing group is full and there is a year long waiting list to join,” said Ina McCarthy, who is one of the driving forces behind the new group.

The first meeting of the new group took place on Wednesday, February 13 in the McAuley Place community centre.

“We will be alternate weeks to avoid a clash with the existing group, and we aim to meet twice a month.

“My hope is that people on the waiting list waiting list will come to the new group which is open to everyone semi and retired,” said Ms McCarthy.

There will be talks and information on health/fitness, nutrition, health and safety as well as disability and mobility issues.

It is also planned to have chair yoga and chair dance classes as well as day trips, with the first to Kilkenny Castle and weekend trips.
