Kildare gardai are looking for witness to last night's fatal Monasterevin road accident

The road was closed off last night after the accident occurred

Gardaí in Kildare are appealing for witnesses following the fatal traffic collision in Monasterevin yesterday evening.

A man in his 40s died after being hit by a 4X4.

At around 6.50pm, the pedestrian, was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle on Dublin Road in Monasterevin.

Garda forensic collision investigators attended the scene and local diversions were put in place. The Dublin Road (R445) between the Nag's Head pub and Fitzpatrick's Garage at New Lodge Cross was closed in both directions. Traffic through the town, and from the Athy Road heading into the town centre, was diverted.

The road is back open this morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Kildare Garda Station 045-527730 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
