Calls for ramps funding for Newbridge estate to be prioritised

A Kildare TD has urged Kildare County Council to prioritise the funding for ramps in the Oaks estate, Newbridge.

She said she has been calling for these ramps for a long time and the problem is only worsening.

“It is paramount that children and their parents are safe when walking to school and at the moment there is a serious speeding concern in the Oaks leading up to the Elms where children walk to Scoil Mhuire," she said.

“People are flying up the road and not taking into consideration for the people living in the houses and the people walking through the estate. I’ve previously called on the council to install traffic calming measures along Standhouse Lawns and Seven Springs because this is an extremely busy road and has become increasingly busier with people using the road to the Curragh to avoid traffic at the McLoughlins side.

“There are two schools in between these locations and many elderly residents living around the area- the installation of ramps in the Oaks and main road will make people feel safer and will reduce speeding in the estate and on the main road”.

“The Council must take responsibility and consider measures that will reduce to speed of cars and increase road safety for all road users," she concluded.
