Kildare votes to remove blasphemy from the constitution

The referendum result was never in any doubt

Both of the constituencies in Kildare have voted overwhelmingly to remove the provision for the crime of blasphemy from the Consitution.

Although no tallies were carried out on the referendum, Tallymen who were working on the Presidential Election ballot reported early today that the referendum would pass easily. The question was simply: by how much?

The result, given to the Leinster Leader moments ago from returning officers Eithne Coughlan (North Kildare) and Maura McIvor (Kildare South) are as follows.
