Presidential Election: So, what happens next?

It's oh so quiet

We know, it's been a bit quiet on leinsterleader.ie and on our social media platforms.

What's happening is that the results of the Kildare North and Kildare South ballot are in, (click here and here respectively) and have been forwarded onto the central count centre in the RDS in Dublin, where all results from all constituencies are being collated.

It is also there that a decision will be made as to whether to run a second count. That is looking unlikely given that the incumbent, Michael D Higgins, appears to have secured more than 50% of the vote nationwide.

Here in Punchestown, count staff are grabbing a sandwich and a cuppa (as are the Leinster Leader), and are waiting on instruction on whether there will be a second count or not. If there is, they will have to conduct it here.

If not, we can move onto counting the votes in the Blasphemy Referendum, and naturally, the Leinster Leader will be here to keep our readers informed until the end.
