Election posters could be banned in Naas town centre say some councillors

Main Street, Naas

A ban on election posters could be on the cards for Naas.

If it happens it’ll likely be done for the local elections due to take place in May 2019.

A number of Naas councillors, members of the Naas Municipal District, have said that the posters should be banned. Independent councillor Seamie Moore is in favour of the ban and has said they are unsightly and degrade the appearance of Naas.

He has suggested that the posters should be restricted to billboard-type platforms provided by the local authority.

At a Naas Municipal District meeting last week, he said that a ban would mean no posters on the streets or in residential areas. He said the Naas councillors could ban the posters from the Naas area even if Kildare County Council did not support the move.
