Huge turnout at Platinum Clubhouse open day in Newbridge

There was a huge turnout for the Platinum Clubhouse open day for World Mental Health Day today.

The centre, which is based in Newbridge, provides a service for people with mental health problems, which is non medical.

"We support people to find education, employment and housing. We also provide a day service where people can come to update their skills and gain support from staff," said manager, Carmel Doyle.

The members led guided tours of the centre from 10am to 2pm with a large number of family members, friends, companies, community group representatives, members of the public and politicians dropping by.

The day was a great success in creating awareness of the services offered, and banishing the stigma often associated with mental health problems.

There was a fantastic upbeat atmosphere and everyone was welcomed with open arms.
